Sunyata's Story
Jessie Garcia Jr
Jessie Garcia may just be emerging as a Denver artist, but he discovered
art at the young age of five.
Throughout his childhood Jessie used drawing as a sanctuary from the chaotic world around him.
As he reached his twenties the hustle and bustle of adulthood set in
and his connection to art was lost in the mix.
He spent the next decade going to college, working, getting married, and having children.
By his thirties Jessie found himself fighting a dark battle with alcoholism. On his 33rd birthday
Jessie made the decision to quit drinking.
As he faced the difficult task of staying sober, he found himself turning once
again to art as a form of healing.
He also found meditation to be a very powerful tool of self discovery.
Through the study of Zen Buddhism Jessie learned the concept Sunyata.
Sunyata means emptiness, not as in the negation of existence but rather the infinite void
that exists within all things and can be found in the perfect meditative state.
Jessie discovered that it was from this space, this 'emptiness' that creativity flows.
It is the Sunyata that brings to him the healing power of art.
He continues to meditate and paint daily as an integral part of his recovery.
He enjoys painting musicians while listening to their music and has developed a
small portfolio of pop art as a result.
He has also started a western collection which highlights the wild beauty of horses.
Jessie invites you to check out his portfolio in the gallery section.
